Today we fixed up the buck section of the barn, getting it ready to move Archar and Phoenix out there. Goodness, how time flies! Archar is nine weeks/ four days old weighing 14.4 lbs, and Phoenix is seven weeks/ six days old weighing 11.2 lbs. Can you believe they are that old already? Seems like just yesterday that they came home.

Early Sunglow - Sweet Corn:

Wild Rabbit | Grey Squirrel | Grey Squirrel, again | Coyote |
We are currently planning the 2013 Kidding Schedule.
So far the only guaranteed pairing is Claire with Archar. Claire has a wonderfully wide escutcheon, to the point that she couldn't be shaped more like an n. We are loving the potential that this pairing will have! Archar's dam, Proctor Hill Farm BO Charlize, has an absolutely beautiful udder, with perfectly plumb teats.
This pairing will be a line breeding on NC PromisedLand RB Bolero *S.
We would like to see Grace paired with Archar as well, but haven't made up our minds on it yet. Grace has a wonderful temperment, nice natural rear set up, and dam's line is full of wonderful mammary systems.
We do not believe that we will be breeding Manni for the 2013 season, as we want to only breed 2-3 does per year. If she is mature enough before Grace is, then we just might put her on the rotation after all.
We have a lot of things to consider in making the final decision on which junior will make the cut for 2013, and we welcome your pairing thoughts and suggestions.

About three weeks ago, we started off our hatching season by setting some eggs in the incubator. Eighteen eggs made it to lockdown. On the 11th, the first 7 hatched out, on the 12th 7 more hatched out, and in the VERY early hours of the morning 1 more found it's way out of its shell. Giving us a nice hatch rate of 83%.
So, we started off the 2012 hatching season nicely, and now we are passing the incubator to our friends. It makes a nice home schooling project! Some of the families will be keeping the chicks they hatch out, while others will just be doing it for the schooling project and then give the chicks "back" to us.

Hi Everyone,
As some of you may have already seen on the news (see news link below), Hopewell Farms has suffered through a tragic barn fire on the morning of Jan 8th.The Hopewell Farms Barn Fire Relief Fund has been created to provide support the Moran Family and all of the surviving Hopewell Farms livestock through this difficult time. The fire claimed the lives of several chickens, piglets and tilapia.
The fire also destroyed the entire barn and all the hay and grain stores for the winter. Any donation amount you can give would be very helpful to help get Hopewell Farms through this very difficult time. I have attached a flyer
with details on how to make a donation. All donations will help provide food for the surviving animals and replace tools/farm implements such as grain scoops, water buckets and shovels.
We will be posting progress of the recovery project on the Hopewell Farms website: www.newburyfarmer.com and also on the Hopewell Farms Facebook page.
